As the flood waters recede, the scale and damage of the South East Queensland floods become more apparent. The task of cleaning up and rebuilding the homes of thousands becomes a priority. InshaAllah, AMYN will also be joining in the massive clean up and rebuilding exercise mainly focusing on the Brisbane area. As details of the flooding become more clear and the needs of the flood victims are known, AMYN will be assisting in alleviating the situation, with Allah’s help.

There are a number of ways that we can help as a community:

• Suggestions and requests for specific or general areas of help. Everyone has been affected slightly differently in the floods and will require different forms of assistance.
• Volunteering to help out in cleaning and rebuilding. Volunteers are essential in the clean-up and rebuilding effort. Allah has placed a great reward in helping those who have been afflicted with hardship. Let us take this opportunity to follow the way of the Prophet (S) and help alleviate the suffering of the flood victims. Register your interest below.
• Donations. Donations will be used to assist victims in their needs as their situations become clear.

Assalamu alaikum

If someone’s house has been submerged already, note that we have opened the AMYN Centre, 16/157 North Rd, Woodridge for you to come and stay in. Taking Coronation Dr to leave St Lucia and neighbouring areas may be dangerous. Oxley on the other side has areas that are not safe either.

Ones amongst you who live in St Lucia, we heard some of you are leaving homes now due to water in them and moving elsewhere.

The following streets are expected to be not struck with flood waters (although we dont know):
- Hawken Drive
- Corner of Hawken Dr and Upland Rd
- Seventh Ave
- Eighth Ave

If some water is coming to your house as with some that we heard of so far, then LEAVE and don’t think it will be safe even on second floor. Just leave to another HIGHER GROUND area.

We’ve heard that houses of some brothers who lived around the UQ sign round about on Sir Fred Schonell drive are already fully underwater. Do NOT go in those areas.

Roads expected to be flooded by now where we know some of you live or have friends but do NOT go to them are at least the following:
- Parts of Sir Fred Schonell Dr
- Walcot st
- Munroe St
- Warren St
- Durham St
- Mitre St
- Coleridge St
- Macquarie St
- Bryce St.
- Corner of Sir Fred Schonell Dr and Gailey Rd

Green Bridge: some areas leading to the Green Bridge on St Lucia side are expected to be flooded so be careful. The high ground on the Dutton Park side of the Green Bridge is likely to be ok whereas the grassy parts beside them are expected to be flooded.

In all these suburbs try to go inland to the high ground areas and leave any houses that have water even a little because the flood levels are set to rise much much more. Suburbs that will be seriously affected include St Lucia areas, Toowong, Yeronga, Fairfield, West End and parts of other suburbs by the Brisbane river.

If you are not already there, then do NOT go across Coronation Dr etc to go to UQ for Friday prayers this Friday because some streets on way to the Multi Faith Centre are now submerged under water.

If you have friends who are not aware of the seriousness and reality of the damage presently and the more to come, then inform them – most importantly if the water is already in your house, do NOT think it will not rise, it is still expected to rise more. Go to high ground that is high.

Beware that parts of Milton Rd and Indooroopilly are also struck with flood waters such as the office works on Milton Rd, so be careful.

We pray Allah keeps all safe, forgive our sins, give sabr and reward.

Situated at the AMYN Centre of Excellence, the AMYN Library hosts a wide variety of Islamic books – from history to current affairs, stories of the Prophets (peace be upon them) to biographies of the Companions and scholars of Islam.  From Fiqh and Fatwa to Hadeeth and many other interesting and inspiring topics.

This is the first project of its kind in Australia that seeks to educate and nurture the Australian Muslim community, particularly our youth, to grow and build on the great achievements of the Muslim Ummah in the past.

So come in and visit the AMYN Library @ AMYN Centre of Excellence.
